Parts used: Young leaves, seeds

Vernacular names:

Eng.: Black mustard; Hin.: Banarsi rai; Kan.: Sasave; Mal.: Katuka; Tam.: Kadugu; Tel.: Aavaalu

Uses as food:

Seeds for flavouring. Seed oil in cooking and garnishing.

Other uses:

Seeds stimulant, rubifacient, vasicant. Stimulate digestive secretions. Used as an emetic, narcotic, and in snake bite. Mustard oil is a mutagen.

Vernacular names:

Eng.: Pineapple; Hin.: Ananas; Kan.: Ananas; Mal.: Ananas; Tam.: Anasipalam; Tel.: Anasapandu

Uses as food:

Ripe fruits eaten. Used in pies, cakes, jams, etc. Fruit juice is extensively consumed. Pineapple fruit waste is used to make vinegar.

Other uses:

        Juice is diuretic and antiscorbutic. Juice of unripe fruit is purgative and abortifacient. Fresh juice contains the enzyme bromelin which aids digestion. Leaf juice anthelmentic.

        Anacardium occidentale L. Cashew. Anacardiaceae. Bark, leaves, soft part of the fruits and the shell astringent, lotion, mouthwash, against tooth ache, sore gums, dysentery, antihypertensive, hypoglycaemic, vasodilator, CNS deppressant, sedative, antibacterial, anthelmintic, molluscicidal.
