Capparis zeylanica |
Capparis zeylanica L., Capparaceae, is a common straggling thorny bush, with pleasing white flowers and many slender yellowish stamens (Capparis zeylanica1), occurring in most parts of India. Root bark is sedative, stomachic, antihidrotic and a cholagogue; also used in cholera. The leaves are a counter irritant applied to boils, swellings and piles. Mucilage, an alkaloid and a phytosterol occur in the bark. The fruits are pickled. |
