Sushrutha, in addition to compiling the elaborate ayurvedic source text Sushrutha Samhitha, has pioneered in surgery in a big way.   He has devised several instruments for surgical procedures.   The popularity gained by Buddhism and Jainism severely discouraged cadaver dissections and surgery, resulting in a setback to surgical practices in treatment.
